Job and Internship Opportunities
The Martha's Vineyard Art Association is seeking a gallery manager to oversee the daily operations of the Old Sculpin Gallery, the gallery of the MVAA for the 2019 Season. Full-time position begins Memorial Day Weekend and goes through Columbus Day Weekend.
Responsibilities include: financial management, office management, staff management, membership management and art sales. Other duties include installation of artwork, coordination of weekly openings, press for shows, and management of the database. The manager will delegate responsibility to other employees and MVAA members to ensure that all of the gallery functions are taken care of. The manager is also the primary contact for artist members, the MVAA Board, and the customers, so good organization and communication skills are critical.
Business, management & retail experience are required. Art experience a plus.
Attention to detail and flexibility to work with different personalities in a fast-paced environment. Ability to collaborate well with a good sense of humor and positive attitude while also maintaining the professional atmosphere.
Experience in customer service is required as you will be the face of the gallery and greeting guests, patrons, board members, and community partners.
Particular preference will be given to individuals with retail experience as well as familiarity with non-profits.
Knowledge of or time spent on Martha’s Vineyard is not required but is highly encouraged due to the particularities of the summer season in Edgartown and the familiarity needed for the individual hired to have their own lodging and transportation.
