About Alexis Russillo

Alexis grew up in the Vineyard in the town of West Tisbury. She attended West Tisbury Elementary and then on to M.V.R.H.S. where she found herself much more interested in art class than academics. Her preference for art classes inevitably brought her to study at The Florence Academy of Art in Florence Italy, where she was classically trained in realism figurative painting. Since she returned from Italy, Alexis reestablished residency in Martha’s Vineyard and works here as a landscape painter.

Here’s a thought as to why I do what I do. I explored rhythms in which things relate- where Earth breaks and water begins with the sky. When I am painting I look and try to find the same rhythms within myself. My work is what I’ve found when living my life, whether I am surfing, walking or just being interested in something that catches my eye.
