Stephanie Reiter

Stephanie’s paintings capture the spiritual tranquility of a range of locals; her native New Jersey and Hudson River, New York City, the endless mountains of Pennsylvania and Martha’s Vineyard.  The extensive palettes, sketch like quality and plein air genesis of her work echo lessons of impressionism capturing nature’s fleeting and transitory moments.  The titles of many paintings often refer to a specific time of day or mood.
Stephanie’s paintings seek to import a “quick light” that jumps off the canvas to convey an immediate expression of a subject where, often the soft edges of positive and negative space vacillate between realism and abstraction recreating the sun’s slippery light effects.  Her individual canvases are like impastoed postcards, painterly reporting and capturing the iconography of nature- ---the mood, time and light of a day. Even her paintings of flowers, still life’s or great American pastimes set out to present and reassert painting’s power to stir and evoke deep emotion and the beauty of nature that is right before our eyes.
