Sheila Hoerle
Sheila has been painting on the Vineyard for many years; she was initially introduced to the watercolor medium by the late Fred Messersmith, who was the artist in residence at the Old Sculpin Gallery. Painting on location was her original method of working; Sheila delighted in creating watercolor images of small boats, beaches, and the familiar island lighthouses. Describing herself as a colorist, She discovered that floral subjects were ideal for her method of painting. Sheila loves to “charge in color” and watch the reaction as two hues merge with each other. She strives for clean, lively, transparent color, but watercolor is unpredictable, so the painting experience is often a new and surprising adventure!
