Robin Gottesman
I have always been a “visual” person. My original career was in medicine; I practiced radiology, subspecializing in neuroradiology for many years. It’s not surprising, therefore, that I was intrigued by photography. Because of family and career, I was not able to purse this interest until about 16 years ago, when I began working part-time and finally retired. I purchased a cheap digital camera, took on- line courses and photographed everything around me.
As I became more serious, I was hired as a freelance photographer in northern New Jersey. I became adept at sports photography and photographed small children’s teams, high school and college sports. Some highlights were photographing several Army-Navy games, a football game and other events for the University of Michigan and numerous sporting competitions for Colgate University. I am still an active sports photographer and currently contract with two high school athletic departments.
In addition to sports, I became interested in nature photography. Having a home on the Vineyard has opened a huge world of beaches, boats, sunrises and sunsets, as well farm animals, pets and birds. I have also visited national parks, and most recently fell in love with the Tetons and Yellowstone. My love of nature photography has segued to wildlife photography. Recent trips have allowed me to photograph extensively in Africa, Alaska and Brazil.
Finally, my photography took on a new dimension when I became a drone pilot. I love visiting vistas and structures that I previously photographed with a camera and seeing them from a different height and angle. Drone and standard camera photography are complimentary, and I enjoy them both.
