Lynne McCauley

Lynne McCauley is an oil painter whose work explores the transformative effects of light, color, and atmosphere. Whether painting en plein air or in the studio, she is drawn to the subtle shifts in light that define a place and evoke an emotional response. Her paintings seek to capture not only the appearance of a landscape or still life, but also the quiet experience of being present within it.

After an extended pause from painting, McCauley returned to her studio practice full time in 2024 with renewed focus and purpose. The time away deepened her artistic vision, strengthening her sensitivity to atmosphere, nuance, and the emotional resonance of everyday scenes. While her work has primarily centered on landscapes and still lifes, she has also explored abstraction and, more recently, narrative figures within the landscape.

McCauley's artistic development has been shaped by study with Margaret McWethy, Ian Roberts, and at the Jerusalem Studio School in Civita Castellana, Italy. Earlier studies at the Traphagen School of Design and the Fashion Institute of Technology continue to inform her strong sense of composition and design.

Her work has been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions throughout Massachusetts and on Martha's Vineyard, including recent solo exhibitions at the Martha's Vineyard Film Center's Feldman Family Art Space, the West Chop Club, and the Hingham Public Library. She is represented by the Old Sculpin Gallery in Edgartown and Waterhouse in Hingham.
