Judy Howells
Judy Howells grew up in Eastern Pennsylvania, earned a BA in Fine Arts from Wilson College, and an MA in Fine Arts from Montclair University. After graduation, she worked as an art educator in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and New Jersey. Her landscape paintings most often depict places close to her home in South Carolina or Martha’s Vineyard. She is also a painter of bird portraits, a subject which evolved from years of plein aire painting.
“Growing up, I was surrounded by rich, yet rapidly disappearing open land, and this unmitigated development has had a deep effect on what I value. I had early exposure to wildlife and rich undeveloped landscapes, but in the course of my lifetime, I have seen so much of it all disappear.”
