About Judy Howells
Judy Howells grew up in eastern Pennsylvania, earned a BA in Fine Arts from Wilson College, and an MA in Fine Arts from Montclair University. After graduation, she worked as an art educator in Pennsylvania, North Carolina, and New Jersey. Her landscape paintings most often depict places close to her home in Pacific Palisades, CA, or Martha’s Vineyard, MA, where she lives part of each year.
“Growing up, I was surrounded by rich, yet rapidly disappearing open land, and this unmitigated development has had a deep effect on what I value. My work is about change, both of time and place. While not reaching environmental issues. I consciously select rather solitary places, often overlooked spaces where land is vulnerable to man’s encroachment. I want that sense of solitude and vulnerability in my work.
