About Anna L. Finnerty

As a native New Yorker, Anna's formative years were greatly influenced by the city's museums and galleries. Her mother, a painter, encouraged early artistic efforts and this interest led eventually to Anna's employment at the Metropolitan Museum. She earned her BA in Art and Photography at Hampshire College, and M. Ed from Lesley College.

During childhood summers on Martha's Vineyard Anna explored the dunes and beaches, wooded paths, flowering meadows bounded by stone walls, barns and farm houses that later would become favored subjects to paint.

After graduate school Anna moved permanently to the island where raising her own family and dual careers in real estate and interior design were her primary focus for the next three decades.

In 2005, Anna rededicated her full energies to painting, initially using the medium of pastels and more recently acrylics.

“My passion is to paint every day, to learn to see and to express the luminosity of light as it interacts with form, especially in the landscape. My paintings are an invitation to share in a reflective moment, to rekindle a memory or to see something old and familiar from a new perspective.”
