Raised in a family of artists, Lowely’s first employment was at the Metropolitan Museum where she was drawn to the classical traditions of painting. She went on to major in Art and Photography at Hampshire College, later putting aside those pursuits while raising her own family. In the past decade she has returned to painting, employing primarily the vibrant medium of pastels. She is a juried member of the Pastel Society of America and the Martha’s Vineyard Art Association. Her work is currently represented at the MVCVA Art Gallery in Oak Bluffs, the Old Sculpin Gallery in Edgartown and the Meghan Candler Gallery in Vero Beach, Florida.
