Margaret Emerson uses acrylics to paint images that can be classified as abstract or modern. She uses a palate knife to give her paintings texture and freedom. Often, her paintings express a feeling or experience. However, she tries to approach an empty canvas with an empty mind, following the shapes and colors that come to her as she creates a work. It is up to the viewer to interpret the meaning.
Margaret retired to Martha’s Vineyard after teaching at Northeastern University in Boston. The island is her energy source. She loves the many creative spirits who live here and keep art alive.
